Arts Festival

Yesterday was our day at the arts festival. We took the train into the city. It was a really good deal because they have this special rate for the summer where up to 4 people can travel together for a total of $10, round trip! Usually it's $11 just for one person. So it really is cheaper than you can drive it. Anyway, it was nice to just kick back and enjoy the ride.

Once we got to the city, we jumped onto Trax to take us to Library Square, the location of the festival. Now I might get "hate comments" for this next photo, but hey, it is what it is. I mean, I have been fat, VERY fat. And when I was very fat, I did my best to not share it with others. I tried to dress in a way that still maintained my dignity and respect. I think people need to do this regardless of what size they are. But when your clothing gets so tight that there's nothing left to the imagination, it's time to go shopping for larger sized clothing (or lose enough weight to properly fit into the size you already own). I'm going back to my standard rule that everyone needs to heed: Just because you can stretch it over your body does not mean you should wear it. Anyway, we got to the arts festival and it was very warm, so we were glad to see that the clouds overhead appeared headed our direction. It was about 90 degrees. Since we went during the week and at lunch time, it wasn't real crowded so that was nice.
This is a picture of the city/county building at Library Square. It is one of the few architecturally beautiful buildings we have in this area.

After a couple hours, a squall passed through. It blew a few of the tents down. Some artists, especially those with glassware, decided to drop their tents down. The real risk takers just held onto theirs until the gusts of wind died down.

The lady on the right decided the concrete filled 5 gallon bucket might not offer enough weight to hold down the tent so she added what she had to help secure it. Of course the other 3 sides had no additional weight to keep the tent from taking flight.

I think the middle tent ended up coming down.

The wind gusts were not good for the tents but it sure cooled off the crowd. Eventually it rained lightly too, not too much, just enough to "keep it fun".
Hubby and I found this to be a great place to watch people. I find them absolutely fascinating. The way people act, the things they wear, and the things they do. It's like reality TV that you've never seen before. We were watching this one group of people and this mom knelt down to adjust something on her child's stroller and revealed about 6" of a black thong (eeeew). I jabbed hubby to show him what I was seeing and was amused at his response. He, very thoughtfully, stated,
"Hmmmmm, I wouldn't have picked her for the thong type".
I'm not sure what that means but I thought it was amusing nonetheless. Anyway, we had lots of fun and of course I didn't even try to maintain my diet guidelines. So today is all about damage control.
